Grief resulting from a suicide can be especially traumatic and complex. Families may find it hard to reach out and usual support systems may be unsure how to help them.
Younger children and teens can be known as the forgotten grievers. They will not process their grief all at once. They need opportunities to share their feelings and know that they are safe. Find out more ways to help children and teens have a healthy grieving process.
Don't let the fear of saying or doing the wrong thing keep you from helping those bereaved by suicide. As in any death, express your sympathy and offer help with needed tasks. Your best help may be a listening ear or a warm hug.
